Palmyra Area School District Kindergarten Program

Presently, the Palmyra Area School District provides a half-day kindergarten program and offers an extended day kindergarten program for students who demonstrate the need for additional academic support. The extended day program serves an average of 40 students per year and has proven successful in providing additional literacy support for those students in order to prepare them for first grade. Early intervention for students is paramount for giving students a strong foundation and a positive start to their educational journey.

Board Policy 201 - Early Adoption of Beginners

Lingle Avenue Elementary School, currently under construction, is scheduled to open for the 2011-12 school year and will house all of the District’s kindergarten students. Although the building will have the capacity to accommodate full-day kindergarten for all students, the most likely scenario is that this must be phased in over a number of years due to financial constraints. At this time, it is not possible to provide parents of future kindergarten students a definitive answer on the school year when a full-day program may be available.
