About Me

In health class, one of our first tasks is to write an autobiography.  Therefore, I thought it would only be fitting if I shared my autobiography (following the Health I rubric) with you.

On a sunny June day, right around the end of the school year, I was brought into this world in Harrisburg Hospital.  There, my parents saw it fit to name me Alanna, after my dad’s middle name, Alan.  My sister, who took most of the brains from the family as she is an optometrist (eye doctor), was born a little over a year and a half before me.  We grew up in a nice house, with a quiet field in the backyard out in rural Hummelstown.

While at Lower Dauphin High School, I encountered one of the most memorable times of my life.  It was in 2009, the girls’ soccer team clinched the State Title and I scored a goal in that game.  I always thought no other sporting accomplishment would compare to that moment until we won the Big South Conference my junior year of college and then went on to play UNC Chapel Hill in the first round of the NCAA tournament.  Sports can bring incredible experiences and powerful emotions. Another highlight in my life is my education.  In 2015, I earned my bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology/Health and PE from Liberty University.  Then in May of 2019, I earned my masters in Sport Management/Sport Administration from Liberty as well.  Now, I am in my 8th year teaching Health and PE at Palmyra and coaching soccer at various places. As far as hobbies, whether it be walking with my family or doing something more active, I love being outside and soaking up all nature has to offer.  As for future plans, although I have already completed a race longer than a marathon, I think it would be fun to complete a 100-mile bike race.

A positive defining moment for me would be getting married.  In April of 2018, I married Zak and it has been a wonderful, sometimes challenging, but truly amazing adventure.  We traveled to Rivera Maya Mexico for our honeymoon and stayed in an all-inclusive resort. Apart from the constant beautiful views, there was always food, and delicious doesn’t even begin to describe it. Another positive defining moment for me is when we brought our first child into this world in December 2020 and our second child in October 2022.  Both of these girls daily brighten my day and I am so thankfully we have been blessed with them.

In conclusion, all of these areas contribute to who and what I am.  Soccer, although it has greatly contributed to making me who I am today, it is only a fraction of my past and future.  It is the lessons that I learned through the process that have shaped me into the person and teacher I am today.  Furthermore, these past experiences, such as earning my most recent master’s degree, has granted me the opportunity to continue learning and meeting new people.  In the end, a person’s past does not define their future for their future is shaped by actions in the present.
